Compost recruits

Fanciful mushrooms have shown up in my compost bed, including a forest of little strawberry papaya plants. Anyone need seedlings?

  1. Are those edible mushrooms? If they aren't maybe you could plant some that are? Papayas are always yummy! Betcha Layla and Murk would approve of lots of papayas. They'd probably eat the leaves as well as the fruit, although I've heard they aren't supposed to eat the seeds. We are hoping for some half siblings to Layla and I guess they'd be second cousins to Murk - but hopefully they will appear tomorrow!

  2. Hi Cathy! Nah, I don't think they're edible. Oh wait, they ARE going in poop so maybe it is! LOL Did you get any little ones?

  3. None yet. I just got the "teenagers" moved into their own cage this morning so the expectant mom (Cloud) wouldn't have to share the nest box with any heavy footed offspring who might step on the new little ones. I just went and looked and fed them and mom is chowing away like a big dog. I had thought they weren't supposed to be all that hungry before they gave birth. Hmpf! She hasn't pulled much wool or gathered too much stuff into her nest box either. Sigh!
