OH NO! THEY DI'INT !!!

*Sigh* The chickens DID ... and ate every single morsel of my kale. It was fine yesterday and bare today. One more reason to keep chickens and gardens separate. Well, their eggs better be good now that they've had an extra dose of leafy greens!

  3. Yeah Serena, they must have because it was a perfect rosette of leaves the day before! They attacked it! LOL

Tina, the thought flashed through my head, really. I put a little fence around it today. I planted some other starts today so I really needed the extra protection. I hope they won't figure out they can hop over the fence! :D

  4. At least, you hope it was the chooks. Can you imagine the size of caterpillars necessary for that amount of kale decimation? What about the fuzzbuns? Do you think Layla and Murk could have had a quickie escape and attacked the kale and then zipped back inside?

  5. LOL Naw, Murk is a dear and would NEVER be any trouble ... NOT! He's a feisty bugger having reached maturity and all. Someone needs a visit with the vet soon!

I am on the lookout for fat giant caterpillars but haven't seen any yet. Nothing has touched the fennel, eggplant, and basil so far. *fingers crossed*

  6. A friend of mine plants marigolds in her vegetable patch to keep the caterpillars away. It seems to work. Don't think it would work on the chickens, though. But eating marigolds would make the egg yolks very yellow, one would think.
