Aquaponics Update - 12/29/10

I never would have believed it if I hadn't taken before and after shots. The picture on the left was taken on Nov. 27, 2010 and the one on the right was taken today, Dec. 29, 2010, just one month later.

  1. Hi Joan,

I was thrilled to find your blog today. I'm just in the planning stages of doing many of the things you are already doing. I was wondering where in Hawaii you are? I'm in Maunawili on Oahu and hope to get to know as many folks as I can who are "urban gardners". I started a worm bin 2 months ago (Worm Factory), have 1 bunny (yours by the way are adorable!) and am planning on getting "my girls" 2 Araucanas and a Rhode Island Red, I think, with maybe a Silkie for brooding - once the rains stop. And I've been thinking about aquaponics but have lots of questions on how the system really compares to garden beds, economics of it, etc. So I really appreciate your blog and hope you continue to put lots of details on the pages. Also do you do tours of your yard?

  2. Hi Sue,
I'm located in Hilo, Big Island. Glad to know there are similar minds out there at Maunawili! I have little silkies mostly because I let mine loose and they stick close to home so I haven't had issues with them impinging on the neighbors. I am always glad to have visitors so if you're on the Big Island, lemme know. If you have questions, feel free to ask. BTW, what kind of rabbit do you have? Aren't their pellets awesome fertilizer?
